I think there's a Smokey behind me

Chewy is a very exclusive cat. She doesn't want to share our affection. She doesn't want to play with the other cats, only with humans. Let's say that she tolerates Smokey and Maui. But thank god they don't hate each other. Smokey on the other hand is a very social cat. He even allows the neighbour's cat in his house as long as they play with him. Maui is very territorial, she likes Smokey and Chewy but any other cat who enter her territory will be adamantly forced to leave the perimeters. Many of us live in households with more than one cat and there are no issues, but for others, tension is ongoing. Unfortunately cats usually don’t get to pick their housemates, and sometimes we humans just don’t select the right match. So it is up to us to make the perfect introduction. Whenever they are gathered together in one room, play with both of them, or feed them their favourite treats. They will associate the get together with positive feelings. Never let the cats “fight it out.” Cats don't forget bad encounters and they don’t resolve their issues through fighting. If you let them fight, it will just gets worse. So interrupt aggression with a loud clap of your hands, or drop some cutlery on the floor, it will startle them and they'll go on separate ways (and hopefully forgot what happened before the noise).

Don't forget that cats are normally solo creatures out in the wild. Only lions really live in social groups and depend on each other for hunting and such. So our pet cats want to have their own beds, perching places, food dishes, and litter boxes. Every time you add a cat, you need to add each of these things. I have 3 cats, I have 3 litter boxes. And Maui is an outdoor cat so she has the luxury to go outside too. In our home, we have more than 5 beds for our cats and plenty of cat trees and perching places where they can stand if they don't want to be bothered. Several feeding areas are important. There's food and water in several places too so they don't have to fight for it. And make sure to pay attention the same way to all of your cats. Pet them all, so your smell is on every cat. So, please excuse me I have some hugs and petting to do now.
