What are you looking at Maui?

As the rain keeps pouring outside (seriously, some more rain? Enough already!) I'm standing next to Maui, looking through the window. I'm bored after 5 minutes (5 long minutes...) but Maui keeps on looking intensively outside...Is it something I missed? What's so interesting outside? Well,it seems like I'm asking myself the wrong question!

What does Maui see that I don't? What would I see if I could see the world through the eyes of my cat?

While us human can see vibrant colours during the day, cats' vision has adapted to very different purposes, so the world they see looks familiar, but isn't quite the same as ours. Our feline companions have a much more better sight when it comes to peripheral vision and night vision. As predators, they need to be able to sense movement well in very low light. And let's be honest, we are a little jealous that cats have a wider field of view — about 200 degrees, compared with humans who only have a 180-degree view. Cats also have a greater range of peripheral vision, all the better to spot that mouse moving in the corner. So maybe that's what Maui is looking at...a mouse? Whatever she saw it must be very tiny and moving fast because I tried hard to sens up my feline sight...but nothing happened. So I guess I'll leave her at her contemplation and continue to take some photos of her.
