Another rainy day...

Enjoy your evening.Smokey is already taking (another) nap. Did you know that cats sleep an average of fifteen hours a day. Their sleeping pattern is close to ours : they either doze in a light sleep or sleep very deeply. When your cat dozes (which lasts about fifteen minutes to a half hour), he’s always ready to spring if danger occurs. That’s why it is said that cats sleep with one eye open.

I have also noticed that my cats have dreams, they tend to move their eyes and their bodies while they are in deep sleep. During that period of their sleep, cats experience rapid (or quick) brain movement. But deep sleep doesn’t last long, about five minutes, after which the cat goes back to dozing. This dozing-deep sleep pattern goes on until the cat wakes up.

So here, is Smokey dozing (or deep sleeping who knows) next to me on this rainy day (yes…unfortunately another one). In my previous blog I was telling how the weather can affect my mood…well, felines are affected by the weather, juste like humans.

It has been observed that cats sleep more when the weather calls for it. Yes, even if my sweet Smokey is an exclusive indoor cat, a rainy or cold day will have him yawning and looking for some shut-eye.

We all have internal body clocks that help us adjust to gradual changes, along with the more major ones that we associate with different seasons. If you want to know your cat’s behaviour, you should consider keeping a cat diary noting your pet’s activity levels at certain times, and what your cat is doing. You will probably start to see predictable patterns over time.
