Tips for adopting a cat and welcome him/her to your home

Not every cats are like Smokey. He got comfy in my house as soon as he was installed in his own room. Cats are particularly sensitive to new surroundings and some may hide under a bed, in a closet or behind furnitures for several days or even weeks. Don't panic, it is totally normal. You should follow your cat pattern and never rush him/her. If , after a couple of hours you open the door of his/her room and the cat doesn't want to move forward, let it be. Close the door and try again a couple of hours later. Cats are territorial, and arriving into a new home leaves them feeling really uneasy, they leave their mom ,sisters and brothers and are now with total strangers... I'm sure you'll feel uneasy too! There’s all that unexplored space, and who knows what may lurk there. The cat's room should have some high place to sleep , a litter box and of course food AND water (specially if you give them dry food, water is very important). Please Locate it away from the litter box.
